In order to improve students' literacy and expression skills, Linyuan Elementary School specially invited Mr. Gao Mingqian, a senior member of the Golden Branch Performing Arts Society, to give lectures at the school, bringing a cross-disciplinary aesthetic course with the theme of "sound". This course is supported by the Ministry of Education's "Cross-disciplinary Aesthetic Education Excellence Pilot Project". Combined with the school's ongoing stop-motion animation creation, it guides students to re-understand themselves and the world from the perspective of sound, and embark on a journey of exploration about listening and expression.
In daily life, sounds may seem ordinary, but they can carry rich emotions, personality, and even a person's life experience. This course starts with sound games, and gradually guides students to experience the levels and changes of sound, and learn how to "feel the world with ears and express themselves with sound", making sound a true carrier of emotions and thoughts. Students also develop the ability to listen attentively and respond sincerely during the course, and become more aware of their own and others’ emotional states, which echoes the core goal of “Social Emotional Learning” (SEL) that is currently valued in the education field.
Principal Hong Congqi said: "Voice is the communication tool we use most often, but it is also the easiest to be ignored. Through today's class, students have a new understanding of the power of voice, and have learned to use voice to understand others and express themselves in life. This is an indispensable and important ability for interpersonal interaction and creative expression in contemporary society."
In class, teacher Gao Mingqian helped students extract key lines from animation scripts, and through practical exercises, guided students to use appropriate intonation, rhythm and emotion to present the character's language. This not only strengthens students' language expression skills, but also makes them more sensitive to the emotions and atmosphere behind the language, so that "speaking" is no longer just a technical output, but also becomes a communication behavior with deep warmth and meaning.
Participating student Huang Zhiyue shared: "Yesterday's voice class taught me that when imitating the sounds of different animals, the parts of the body that produce the sounds are actually different. For example, the sound of a wolf is transmitted from the vocal cords to the nasal cavity. It's very special and fun!" Student Liu Yunjie also said: "When speaking, it's not just about making sounds, it's more important to make the other person hear clearly. When dubbing, you have to be able to integrate the character's emotions and feel like you are talking to someone, so that it will be more realistic. I think this technique is very practical!"
Linyuan Elementary School will continue to combine various aesthetic education resources of the Ministry of Education to create more diverse and in-depth cross-disciplinary learning opportunities, hoping to cultivate future talents with observation, sensitivity and expression.
