New Taipei City Ren'ai Elementary School - Taking the Mirror as a Mirror

The fifth grade Chinese language course mentioned the historical story of Emperor Taizong of Tang and Wei Zheng. Emperor Taizong once called Wei Zheng his mirror.………."People use copper as a mirror to adjust their attire, use the past as a mirror to see the rise and fall of things, and use people as a mirror to understand gains and losses."……."Mirrors are an indispensable tool in modern life, essential for grooming and applying makeup. Through the mirror, we can examine our appearance and, by extension, our own shortcomings. In ancient times, people lacked mirrors and could only see their reflections in water. How were mirrors invented and made? Who could use them? These curiosities inspired this course.

Ren'ai Elementary School's school-based curriculum includes computer graphics and design, laser cutting, and metalworking. This course, grounded in language studies and integrated with arts, school-based, and natural science courses, allows students to explore and think from different perspectives. Students can experiment with modern technology and traditional craftsmanship, exploring and creating bronze mirrors used by ancient people, ultimately creating their own mirrors.
