Taipei Tianmu Junior High School—Peace and War

Through online research into the historical background of war, students are guided on how to organize and reflect on war stories they observe or read in their daily lives, whether in physical spaces or online, and then create a thematic monochrome painting to share their feelings. This helps students better understand how to collect, organize, dialectically present, and share their conclusions in their creative process. In addition to group discussions on searching for historical backgrounds of war online, students also discuss their own experiences with war (including disagreements and conflicts among peers) in school, family, online, and society, and their understanding of the causes of war. This is combined with discussions of their experiences in Tianmu Junior High School (disagreements), and the use of anti-war TED videos to guide students in expressing their views in their creative work, highlighting important considerations and artistic perspectives. Besides fostering teamwork and deepening their understanding of life and self-emotional regulation, the course aims to encourage students to use their imagination to create persuasive arguments, allowing them to experience how to use their creativity to put anti-war consciousness into practice and uphold the declaration of peace. Ultimately, students will be able to organize their observations and arguments, create paintings and scripts, and express them through language and body language. By combining the expertise of teachers in social studies, language arts, general education, information technology, and the arts, the "Peace and War" STEAM creativity curriculum unit teaching activities were developed. Through interdisciplinary integrated teaching practices, it is hoped to provide students with a richer and more diverse learning experience, integrating creativity into teaching. This aligns with the "core competencies" of the three aspects and nine directions of the twelve-year compulsory education system, which is the spirit of holistic education. It aims to equip students with the knowledge, abilities, and attitudes necessary to adapt to current life and face future challenges. Learning is not limited to subject knowledge and skills, but focuses on whether students can identify problems in life, creatively propose solutions, and carefully design and efficiently implement them, making their lives more meaningful and pursuing greater social contributions.
