Penghu County Pengnan Junior High School - Brick Flower Soap Fun

Continuing the 111-year-old tile course, we aim to elevate tiles beyond mere tiles. By transforming the designed tiles into various cultural and creative products, we aim to expose their beauty and this precious cultural artifact, which is on the verge of being lost. Every meaningful house becomes a historic building over time, and every corner holds a rich tapestry of fascinating stories. Every tile holds its own story and culture.

Hand soap, like the endangered mosaic tiles, shrinks with age. We should start by caring for the surroundings, preserving a beautiful living space for each meaningful tile. The fragrance of soap during handwashing is a familiar smell and touch. Through five-sense design, students can gain a deeper understanding of the history and culture of mosaic tiles.

The course incorporates the five senses: vision (the impact of color), smell (the emotional impact), hearing (the sound of soap), and touch (the closest connection). This creates a richer sensory connection between the tiled soap and the user. Sensory stimulation can inspire a deeper understanding of culture. The life of these endangered tiles rests in our hands. By integrating the five senses, we can experience the most intimate interaction between people and the tiles when using hand soap.

What we truly want to do is allow tiled tiles to be reborn within culture and reintegrate into everyone's lives. Tiles aren't simply a beauty to be preserved; rather, the traces they leave behind in modern times can be revitalized. The idea of creating hand soap is a metaphor for how the life of these endangered tiles rests in our hands. By connecting tiled tiles with handmade soap, we can help students understand their own culture, reflect on how to preserve a fading culture, and carry on the mission of sustainable cultural development.
