Let beauty penetrate into daily life - cooperative schools in the Taipei-Keiyi area show fruitful results of cross-domain beauty

The second event of the Ministry of Education's "2024 Academic Year Taipei-New Taipei-Keelung-Yilan Area Collaborative Schools' Cross-Disciplinary Aesthetic Education Achievement Presentation," part of the program, took place on July 9, 2025, at the Taipei Botanical Garden and the Bo Xue Lecture Hall of Jianguo High School. Fifteen schools from the Taipei-New Taipei-Keelung-Yilan area gathered to present their outstanding curriculum achievements that integrate Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), and international issues. The presentations showcased cross-school, cross-disciplinary, and international collaborations, demonstrating how each participating school is integrating aesthetics into daily life and connecting learning with the world.

Hosted by Professor Huang Chun-min of the Department of Education at our university, the project co-host invited Associate Professor Shih Lan-mei of the Department of History at our university, Assistant Professor Chen Chun-wen of the Institute of Arts and Humanities Education at National Taipei University of the Arts, and Assistant Professor Chen Ming-hui of the College of Education at National Chengchi University to give feedback. Principal Chuang Chih-chun of Taipei Jianguo High School also made a special trip to the event to express his gratitude and witness the fruitful results achieved by teachers from the project's partner schools in promoting interdisciplinary aesthetic education in the classroom.

The morning activities began with a "Botanical Garden Walk," where anthropologist and adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at National Yangming National Chiao Tung University, Professor Hsieh Yi-Yi, led the participating teachers on a walk along the botanical garden trails in the rain. Listening to the natural music of raindrops pattering on leaves and birdsong, they immersed themselves in the harmony of nature and experienced the close connection between plants and urban development.

The Taipei Botanical Garden is not only a base for botanical research but also an important site for plant conservation and regeneration. This time, the garden specially invited Assistant Researcher Li Junwei from the Forestry Research Institute, Ministry of Agriculture, to introduce the Ark Greenhouse complex, which was open to the public on its first day, to the teachers. Professor Huang Chun-min encouraged the teachers present, stating, "Botanical gardens are one of the best demonstration sites for integrating aesthetics, SDGs, SELs, and history, fostering cross-domain collaboration, continuity, and expansion." She further expressed her hope that "every school can create a botanical garden that students will never forget," bringing the concept of green happiness into the campus to unveil the aesthetic achievements of this event.
