Kaohsiung Interdisciplinary Aesthetics and Social Emotion Learning Workshop

This workshop, a collaboration with the Kaohsiung City Education Bureau's Elementary Education Counseling Team, focused on mindfulness, offering a full day of mind-body awareness and emotional exchange. The morning's "Mindfulness Practice for Teachers," led by teachers Chen Bao-mei and Chen Yu-qiao from the BEST ME team, taught us to pause, observe, and respond skillfully, rather than reacting automatically, through awareness and practice. The five senses raisin exercise and discussions about the differences in smelling taste through the left and right nostrils helped us rediscover the "present moment." Following this, co-facilitator Chen Yun-wen shared her insights, demonstrating how art and emotional education can complement and integrate, creating warm and creative teaching methods, through international materials and teaching experiences compiled by the teachers.

In the afternoon, Ms. Lai Yu-hsuan from Neili High School led a fascinating practical course in performing arts. Through empathy exercises involving perspective-taking, participants experienced how SEL (Student-Led Learning) can be concretely transformed into learning activities and resonate deeply within them. Ms. Lai also mentioned, "Education is not just the transmission of knowledge, but also the ability to connect with students." This statement deeply moved every participant and served as our most valuable reminder of the day. Finally, Ms. Yun-wen guided us back to the perspective of "interdisciplinary aesthetics," leading everyone to review and summarize the day's learning, and reflect on how SEL can encounter our teaching practice. Thank you to all the teachers for their participation and enthusiasm, and thank you to the instructors for their guidance. This workshop was a profound encounter and a day full of inspiring teaching practice.
