Learning begins when emotions are recognized.

The "2023 Central Taiwan Interdisciplinary Aesthetic Education and Social-Emotional Learning Workshop," held on December 20th at Taichung Elementary School, explored a range of emotions from closing one's eyes to becoming aware of them and using the emotional quadrant to examine one's own state. The workshop culminated in a moving performance by the Cool Ling Troupe, "The Chalk Broke, and My Heart Broken," and through drama and immersive experiences, participants witnessed the real emotional landscape within the school. Teachers also personally experienced the Emotion Wheel teaching aid. The workshop presented a diverse and enriching experience, transforming abstract feelings into practical language and tools that can be used in the classroom.

Subsequently, Ms. Yunwen led a cross-disciplinary aesthetic education and social-emotional learning co-creation workshop to provide a clear SEL framework and resources, assisting teachers in moving social-emotional learning from concept to practical application, extending it from classroom management to campus culture, and expanding to all aspects, and grasping the whole picture of SEL with tSEL (CASEL Wheel 2.0)—or transformational SEL.

Finally, guided by the belief of "starting from the present, making good use of our resources, and doing our best," a carefully crafted ending was arranged. After reflection, the participants wrote down: "Take immediate action, form a cohesive circle, and develop a cross-disciplinary aesthetic education spirit of co-creation, co-learning, and co-benefit."

The entire event was like a kaleidoscope for the participants, with each segment reflecting different layers of brilliance. Through the interplay of aesthetic education, socio-emotional learning, and dialogue, it revealed a rich and multifaceted tapestry of experiences that left a lasting impression. Expanding from individual lives to classrooms and campuses, and extending to every aspect of life, SEL (Social Emotional Education) begins now, through the five senses and six perceptions, starting with aesthetic education.
