Let Art Take Root in the Classroom—An Outcome Exchange Meeting Held in Collaboration with 20 Partner Schools in the Kaohsiung-Pingtung Area as Part of the Interdisciplinary Aesthetics Project

The 2024 Kaohsiung-Pingtung Area Collaborative Schools' Achievement Exchange Meeting of the Interdisciplinary Aesthetics Project was held on June 13th at Fushan Elementary School in Kaohsiung City. Representatives from 20 collaborating schools in Kaohsiung and Pingtung gathered to review the teaching experiences of their teachers throughout the academic year, showcasing the deep cultivation and innovation of aesthetic education in interdisciplinary curricula. The diverse and rich curriculum content presented at the meeting, through sharing of curriculum practices and inter-school dialogue, infused the teaching environment with abundant innovation and artistic vitality.

Qishan Elementary School in Kaohsiung City used 5G VR equipment to lead children to an immersive experience of "Ocean Sounds," allowing them to feel the beauty of nature and explore environmental issues.

Kaohsiung Fushan Elementary School, on the other hand, presented a piece titled "Variations on My Own Self," composing its own unique melody of life through a multi-sensory feast of color, taste, and music.

Kaohsiung City's Hsin-Shang Elementary School has created the "Hsin-Shang Art Museum," connecting community outreach programs, food and agriculture education, and gender issues. Meanwhile, Pingtung County's Da-Cheng Art Experimental Elementary School mobilized the entire school to host the "Land Art Festival," creating a learning environment where children and artists co-create, connecting local communities with international dialogue.

During the event, representatives from various schools shared several unique local cultural courses. Pingtung Affiliated Elementary School explored traditional crafts, combining visual poetry and physical movement to allow children to interpret local industry stories from their own perspectives. Hengchun Elementary School in Pingtung County led students to care for their hometown environment, singing Hengchun's unique peninsula folk songs to express their memories and humanistic feelings about the land. After the school reports, Professor Deng Zongsheng, a teacher training committee member who has long been deeply involved in local education, provided detailed responses and suggestions to each school. A comprehensive exchange and discussion followed, where teachers shared their teaching experiences and challenges, sparking more innovative teaching ideas through collaborative learning. The event also included a "Plate Aesthetics" hands-on course, where Chef Li Jiaming demonstrated artistic plating, guiding teachers to appreciate the beauty in everyday details through design and practice, integrating aesthetic education into daily life.

Through this results sharing session in the Kaohsiung-Pingtung area, the Ministry of Education will continue to support the growth and connection of professional teacher communities in various regions. Professor Kao Chen-feng, the co-project leader, also encouraged more schools present to join the ranks of aesthetic education, so that art and education can meet and ferment in more corners, transforming into a beautiful force to support student growth.
