113th Academic Year Cooperative Schools in Central Taiwan (Changhua and Nantou Districts) End-of-Term Results Presentation

The Ministry of Education's "Interdisciplinary Aesthetic Education Excellence Leadership Program" held its "2023 Academic Year Central Taiwan (Changhua-Nantou) Partner Schools End-of-Term Results Presentation" on June 5th at Fuyang Elementary School in Fengyuan District, Taichung City. The event brought together teachers and teacher training committee members from 20 partner schools in the central Taiwan region to showcase the fruitful results of their annual curriculum innovations, marking a new chapter in the practice and promotion of interdisciplinary aesthetic education.

This event was jointly hosted by Professor Huang Chun-min of National Taiwan Normal University (co-host) and Professor Chuang Min-jen of National Taichung University of Education (co-host), and invited Chen Ya-hsin, Chief Secretary of the Taichung City Government Education Bureau, Lan Tzu-ling, Section Chief, Chang Ching-pei, the project's implementing teacher, Wang Min-chen, a prospective principal from the Nantou County Education Bureau, and Lin Yu-shan, a teacher seconded from the Changhua County Education Bureau, to provide guidance and witness the diverse aspects of the cross-disciplinary aesthetics project in the central Taiwan region.

The event opened with the melodious strains of the recorder ensemble from Fuyang Elementary School, perfectly showcasing the harmonious integration of art and education through multiple harmonies. Following this, county and city officials and project representatives delivered speeches. Chief Secretary Chen Ya-hsin stated that Fuyang Elementary School, like a forest school in Taichung City, cultivates students' appreciation for beauty through its environment. Through interdisciplinary aesthetic learning, students develop innovation and problem-solving skills. Professor Li Jing-fang from the Department of Fine Arts at National Changhua University of Education, a partner university in the project, expressed that the resources provided by the interdisciplinary aesthetic project not only allow university professors to develop interdisciplinary aesthetic courses but also significantly enhance teachers' teaching motivation through overseas study programs, revealing the richness of the deepened curriculum.

In order to highlight the rich content of the curriculum creation plans of the 20 schools in the 113th academic year, the cross-disciplinary aesthetic project has specially planned a dual-track model of "poster exhibition" and "course video appreciation". Through the complementary way of visual display and narrative images, it deeply presents the wonderful trajectory of curriculum development and students' learning process.

At the exhibition, teacher representatives from various schools provided guided tours, personally introducing the concepts and implementation processes of the curriculum design. This allowed attendees to fully understand how the curriculum design cleverly integrates local culture, artistic creation, and technological applications, fostering collaboration and inspiration among teachers through hands-on exchange. Taichung Fuyang Elementary School has long been deeply involved in the traditional craft of lacquer art in Fengyuan District. In their "Lacquer Travelogue" course, students learn about the region's lacquer culture and history through field trips, creating a local travel guide. Taichung Datong Elementary School integrates students' five senses by creating dolls—"Hug My Love"—based on their knowledge of native Taiwanese animals. Taichung Huiwen High School combines social-emotional learning with drama performances to explore how high school students can use drama to explore their emotions and social issues, and how to interact with others. The curriculum themes shared by teachers from various schools were diverse, covering aspects such as local field trips, artistic creation, environmental issues, and multiculturalism, fully demonstrating the outstanding practical results and profound educational significance of interdisciplinary integration. During the guided tour, the teacher shared that by helping students better understand the land, they can develop a sense of belonging and a transfer of aesthetic appreciation to the land, thus deepening their understanding of aesthetic education.

In the afternoon, a "Lacquer Art Creation Experience Workshop" will be arranged, where professional instructors will guide teachers to create "leaf-printed maki-e" lacquerware plates. Through leaf vein printing, teachers will create rich and multi-layered lacquer art expressions and experience the perfect combination of the beauty of traditional craftsmanship and modern teaching, allowing teachers to enjoy a fulfilling and aesthetically pleasing afternoon.

This results presentation was not only an important end-of-term summary, but also a crucial platform for exchanging knowledge and teaching inspiration. Moving forward, the project team will continue to deepen its collaborations with various schools, actively encouraging teachers to develop innovative interdisciplinary curriculum experiments, and continuously injecting innovative thinking and aesthetic cultivation into Taiwanese education.
