114th Academic Year Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Midterm Course Sharing Session

On January 12th (Monday), the 2015-2017 mid-term curriculum sharing session for the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan region was held at Chiayi University Affiliated Elementary School, a benchmark school! The atmosphere at the event was lively, with teachers and staff gathering together, demonstrating the cohesion of cross-school exchange. The event was opened by Professor Lin Hsiao-yu, the regional host, followed by speeches from Principal Shen Kuei-chih and Education Bureau Inspector Chang Ying-yu, both of whom affirmed the teachers' efforts in curriculum innovation.

During the insightful presentations from various schools, attending teacher training committee members Huang Jingfang, Huang Ruisong, Chen Hongling, and Chen Qingxiu offered valuable feedback to the teachers on how they incorporated local knowledge into the curriculum. For example, Zhengxin High School's Yunlin River field trip combined geography and environmental education to cultivate students' local awareness; Jiali Junior High School's Jintang Temple paper-cutting art and Yongkang Junior High School's street manhole cover design led students to explore the community's landscape architecture and history.

Other schools that have been cultivating this program for many years are continuing and deepening their curricula. For example, Yu-Jen Elementary School combines homemade two-stringed instruments made from canned fruits and vegetables, and Liu-Lin Elementary School collects Chiayi color swatches, allowing students to interpret Chiayi culture through color. Teachers from schools implementing the program for the first time not only learn from the experience but also share their insights on developing lesson plans. A teacher from Sheng-Ping Junior High School, after accompanying students to the National Music Festival, was inspired to connect classic Chinese music pieces with artistic creation and literary expression.

At the end of the engaging sharing session, Professor Lin Xiaoyu encouraged the participating teachers and faculty to be actively and earnestly involved, and expressed her hope that schools would continue to expand and deepen the influence of interdisciplinary courses.
