Keelung, a historic city developed very early in Taiwan, is a mountainous, sea-and-ocean port city nestled between mountains, rivers, and the sea. We hope to enable students to explore the aesthetics of their location through a cross-domain aesthetics course. We plan to develop a three-stage, local cross-domain aesthetics course: mountain, river, and sea. Through "natural" and "human" routes, we will explore and discover the local beauty. The 2011-2 semester continues the concept of the "Mountain" course with the "River" course, focusing on the Keelung Tianliao River as the aesthetic theme. Through "natural" off-campus explorations (including the Tianliao River and the Xin'er Road air-raid shelter) and "human" off-campus explorations (collecting materials for the course design at attractions such as the Tianliao River, the Tianliao Water Treatment Plant, Yuemei Community, and Keelung Community University), we will explore and discover the local beauty. Finally, we will present the learning outcomes through a map-based walking tour. The course focuses on "walking" as the research approach, with "walking and reading" as the core.
