Fuyang Elementary School, Taichung City – Shaking Formosan Black Bear: Woodworking Experience and Sustainable Design Course
Promoting Domestic Timber and Environmental Sustainability: Based on the local timber industry in Fengyuan, and with the core concept that "forests are carbon sinks," students are guided to learn about Taiwan's local forest resources (such as acacia and Taiwan cedar). Through hands-on experience with domestic timber and visits to historical forestry sites, students develop the concepts of "forest carbon sequestration" and "reducing carbon footprint," echoing the SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption) and SDG 15 (Land Ecosystem) Sustainable Development Goals.
Craftsmanship inheritance and Maker practice: Combining traditional woodworking techniques (inlaying, sawing) with modern design, the "craftsman spirit" is integrated into the classroom. Through the hands-on process of creating something from scratch, students develop their focus on using tools and their practical ability to face and solve problems.
Aesthetic Exploration and Connection to Life: Students are guided to use their five senses to observe the unique texture, color, and aroma of wood, and to learn principles of form (symmetry, balance). Craftsmanship techniques are applied to the creation of everyday objects, resulting in practical (pen holders/mirrors) and therapeutic tableware, allowing aesthetic appreciation to occur naturally in daily life.
