In 2022, Yongchun Elementary School and Yongji Elementary School will merge into a new school - Shuangyong Elementary School. The original school buildings of the two schools will soon be demolished and rebuilt. The construction of public art on campus is one of the important constructions of the future new school building. Through this opportunity, students have the chance to participate in the construction of public art, and we hope that the public art of the new school building in the future can be combined with students' ideas and completed together with artists. The concept of this course is to stimulate students to think about how to practice and participate in artistic creation in a larger social context through public art; students can think from the perspective of others and propose solutions; and challenge students to complete tasks together through collaborative learning.
Last semester's public art course included an art thinking course. Students explored public art works in various contexts, starting from their own culture and international culture. They applied appropriate attitudes and skills to understand public art works and completed their first public art project proposal on campus. This semester's Shuangyong Public Art Proposal course, drawing on the experiences of public artists in creating public art works on campus, allowed students to understand that in developing Shuangyong public art proposals, students not only need to develop their own creative ideas for the artwork's form, but also consider the artwork's public nature and materiality. Finally, students presented their public art proposals in an expert dialogue format and listened to the opinions of public artists and scholars.
