This interdisciplinary aesthetics course is developed with the core principles of "land-based, ceramics-centered, STEAM-framework, and competency-oriented," guiding students to start from their local environment and connect natural science with life experiences through hands-on ceramic practice, constructing a deep and meaningful learning journey. Using ceramics as a learning medium, the course allows students to experience the texture of the land through hands-on activities, understand the relationship between natural materials and human life, and cultivate observational skills and aesthetic literacy.
This course integrates with the school curriculum, incorporating an exploration of the indigenous culture of the Mafo area. Through community fieldwork, students learn about the formation background of landslide dammed lake silt and local silt in Mafo, understand land change and environmental issues, and develop an initial sense of identity with their local culture. Learning is no longer confined to the classroom but extends to real-world settings, closely connecting knowledge with life.
The course also emphasizes collaborative learning and reflective learning. Through group discussions, hands-on activities, and sharing of results, it cultivates students' expression, communication, and problem-solving skills. Students also collaborate with community artists and kilns to complete a full learning journey from creation to exhibition. The overall course aims to cultivate students' aesthetic appreciation, STEAM skills, and local awareness, realizing the educational value of interdisciplinary learning.
The course further integrates environmental conservation issues, guiding students to recycle and reuse waste generated by landslide dam events, turning waste into materials and combining it with ceramic art creation to produce artworks. Through their creations, students understand the concepts of environmental change and resource recycling, and through exhibitions of their works, they demonstrate their care for their hometown's ecology and community environment, organically integrating art, aesthetics, and environmental education to cultivate students' sustainable thinking and action.
