Zhudong Junior High School, Hsinchu County—Zhudong Art Activists

"The Art Activists of Zhudong" centers on an "art festival," starting from the cultural landscape of Zhudong Township and combining artistic creation, community action, and sustainable education to shape a learning path from exploration and creation to action. The course is divided into three main steps: "Walking through Zhudong, Observing the Local," "Transforming Stories, Creating Art," and "Sharing Aesthetics, Curating Action."
Students first ventured out of the campus to record the spatial features and human stories of Zhudong through field visits and interviews; then, using art as a medium, they created old house models, sound maps, and publications, transforming local memories into visible works of art; finally, using the "Zhudong Art Festival" as a performance platform, students became education promoters, leading townspeople to participate in co-learning workshops and giving back the learning outcomes to the community.
This course emphasizes "using art to engage in urban and rural development and foster intergenerational sustainable learning initiatives." Through the core concepts of SDG11 Sustainable Urban and Rural Development, it guides teachers and students to start from local cultural and spatial issues and practice the role transformation "from learner to educator." Ultimately, it aims to make the school a sustainable cultural action center that connects the community and fosters interdisciplinary co-creation, allowing art to become a force for promoting social participation and cultural regeneration.
