Taipei Jingmei Junior High School – "Human Rights Road, Art Journey: Human Rights and Art Action Course"

Since Jingmei Middle School is adjacent to the Jingmei Human Rights Museum, the school hopes that students can gain a deep understanding of the museum’s historical background and its connection to the Jingmei area. Therefore, the course planning starts from the history of Jingmei, with the autobiography of Mr. Xu Guibiao, a local victim during the White Terror period, "Warm Sun Jingwei" as the core text, as an opportunity to start this series of human rights courses.

This course is designed around the principles of "historical reflection, local connection, and activism." Through interdisciplinary integration, it guides students through diverse perspectives, from textual reading and historical inquiry to art and social issues, fostering an understanding and concern for human rights. Last semester, we hoped that by drawing on local experiences, students would not only gain a deeper understanding of the history of the White Terror in Jingmei, but also reflect on its impact on contemporary society, further enabling them to put human rights values into practice in their daily lives.

In the next semester, the course will expand students' horizons to an international level, with International Denim Day as the theme. Students will reflect on social issues and creatively combine denim, a material that symbolizes resistance and tenacity, with artistic creation to express their personal support for social justice.

In addition, by combining exhibitions at the Human Rights Museum and the Taiwan Literature Museum, and in conjunction with International Human Rights Day in December and International Tannin Day in April, the school has launched a series of activities and exhibitions related to human rights equality, combining local resources with international issues. This allows students to deepen their understanding of human rights in diverse learning contexts, cultivate independent thinking and civic awareness, and truly implement human rights education in their lives.
