Kinmen County Jinning Elementary and Junior High School—Mandala Art—Exploring the Center of the Inner Universe

1. Settling a chaotic mind with geometric order (Mathematics × Psychology)
The geometric structure of a mandala (center point, symmetry, circle) has the function of "counteracting disorder." This course guides students to understand that geometric figures are not just formulas in textbooks, but also manifestations of the laws of the universe and the order of the mind. When students face confusion or emotional fluctuations during their growth, by constructing a center point that connects all things, they can make up for mental chaos and regain inner balance and safe boundaries on the canvas.
2. Visualizing abstract emotions (Visual Arts × SEL Self-Awareness)
The cornerstone of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is the identification and naming of emotions. The course guides students to break free from traditional frameworks and map ineffable unconscious traits, stress, or conflict onto colors (such as blue, green, yellow, and red) and lines in the "emotion regulation zone." Drawing inspiration from Jung's experience of voluntarily battling the unconscious and overcoming spiritual crises through mandala drawing, students engage in "active imagination" through artistic creation, allowing emotions to be seen and accepted, thereby achieving a healing effect of self-management.
3. Expanding from the individual "center" to the external "circumference" (Life Education × Interpersonal Skills)
The mandala teaches us that every point on the circumference is equidistant from the center. This symbolizes that within a social or classroom group, although each person's personality and role (a point on the circumference) differs, they are entirely equal in terms of personal value. The course not only guides students to find their absolute center and strengths by questioning "Who am I?", but also cultivates empathy, respect for multiculturalism, and interpersonal communication skills through the group co-creation of a large mandala, allowing life to transcend habitual noise and instead achieve a stable connection with the inner and outer universes.
