Kouhu Junior High School, Yunlin County—Discovering the Colors of Hometown and the Jackie Chan Arts Festival in Kouhu Township

Chenglong Village in Kouhu Township is situated at the crossroads of wind and water in Yunlin County. In 1986, Typhoon Wayne caused a devastating flood, submerging the entire coastal area of Kouhu Township and drastically altering its economy, ecology, and residents' lives. Older generations considered it a cursed place. After nearly 40 years of resource support, Kouhu Township has gradually found a way to coexist with water and continue to thrive on this land. In the arts, the Chenglong Arts Festival has provided an opportunity for Chenglong Village to be recognized internationally for its community beauty. Through international artists, the festival encourages residents to collaborate on artistic creation, fostering a sense of belonging and recognition of the community's beauty. Kouhu Junior High School in Yunlin County has been promoting outdoor education for over 10 years. We entered the Chenglong community to design a real-world puzzle-solving experience, exploring the community's aspects of life, production, and ecology. These three aspects align with the Social, Economic, and Environmental Strategies (SDGs). In exploring the local environment, we hope students will be nurtured by humanities and arts through their five senses.
The training helped students discover the forgotten beauty in the corners of the community, which inspired their inner emotions and served as inspiration for their creations. This continued the original intention of the Jackie Chan Art Festival in the past, turning the beauty of their hometown into a seed for perpetual creation.
