Guanyin High School, Taoyuan City—Memories Woven into the Earth: Exploring the Totemistic Weaving Culture of Indigenous Peoples in Taiwan, North America, and Australia

Core Concepts: Holistic Education and Intercultural Understanding

  • This aligns with the vision of Guanyin High School: "Reading ability," "Critical thinking ability," and "Practical ability."
  • Deepen humanistic concern: Through the exploration of indigenous environments in Taiwan, North America and Australia, guide students to reflect on the sustainable coexistence of humans and nature.
  • Cross-cultural respect: By discussing the natural and worldviews embodied in totems, students are cultivated to respect differences and multiculturalism.

Teaching Structure and Model: Task-Oriented and Phase-Integrated

  • Task-oriented learning (TBL): This student-centered approach allows students to understand principles and learn skills through hands-on activities.
  • Collaborative preparation by a professional teaching community: Led by the Multimedia Animation Department, teachers from Chemistry, Biology, and Geography are invited to participate, enhancing the professionalism and breadth of teaching.
  • Connecting knowledge and aesthetics: Combining scientific principles (plant dyes), design principles (pattern deconstruction), and artistic creation to deepen the meaning of learning.

The third stage of curriculum development design

  • Exploring the origins of color: Combining knowledge of chemistry, biology, and geography, this study explores the chemical composition, distribution, and sustainable harvesting methods of dye plants.
  • Deconstructing the Inheritance of Culture: Through design theory and artistic perspectives, this study analyzes the cultural connotations of indigenous patterns and explores the transmission of faith and knowledge.
  • The practice of sustainable dyeing and weaving: using natural fibers and plant dyes to create works and thinking about how to combine traditional connotations with modern aesthetic expression.

Issues Integration and Social Responsibility

  • Corresponding SDG objectives:

SDG4 (Quality Education): Implement competency-based teaching to enhance creativity.

SDG12 (Responsible Consumption and Production): Emphasizes environmental awareness and low-carbon processes, and the use of natural and sustainable materials.

SDG15 (Terrestrial Ecology): Exploring the conservation of dye plants and fostering an attitude of respect for resources.
