Longxing Junior High School, Taoyuan City—Dragon Box Treasure Hunt: Starting from Me, a Cultural Voyage!

This course, with the core concept of "Starting from oneself and going global," guides students to understand that culture is not abstract knowledge, but rather values, memories, and emotional connections that exist in life experiences through cultural exploration and creative practice. The course design begins with seventh-grade students, using the theme of Chinese New Year culture to guide them from their personal and family experiences, gradually expanding to socio-cultural understanding and cross-cultural expression.

I. Establishing cultural literacy by starting with self-identity

The core of cultural education lies in helping students understand "who I am." This course, through cultural mapping and sharing of family customs, helps students realize the connection between culture and personal background, thus establishing a cultural identity. When students can tell their own stories, they have the foundation to engage in dialogue with others.

Therefore, this course emphasizes that culture is discovered in life and connected to social culture through personal experience.

Respect diversity and perspectives, and cultivate students' open, inclusive and understanding attitudes.

II. Deepening Cultural Understanding Through Inquiry and Critical Thinking

The course goes beyond simply imparting knowledge about festivals; through data collection, cross-textual reading, and group discussions, it guides students to explore the historical context and symbolic meaning behind the Spring Festival culture. Students learn to think about "why culture exists," "why it changes," and "which values are worth preserving," moving from knowledge to understanding, and from understanding to critical thinking.

III. Cross-cultural communication through creative and language practices

Culture cannot be understood if it cannot be expressed. This course, through cultural handicrafts and cultural box design, allows students to transform cultural connotations into concrete works, and provides explanations and video introductions in simple English, cultivating cross-cultural communication skills. Through artistic creation and language output, students learn to transform abstract cultural meanings into concrete expressions.

IV. Cross-domain integration to cultivate holistic literacy

This course integrates artistic creation, practical technology design, and English expression, emphasizing interdisciplinary integration and real-world application, echoing the spirit of competency-based curriculum. Students not only learn knowledge but also cultivate problem-solving skills and a spirit of self-improvement through collaboration and creation.

The purpose of cultural education is not merely to preserve tradition, but to cultivate future citizens who can understand themselves, respect others, and connect with the world.
