Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is an important new technological tool, and the ability to effectively utilize GenAI has become essential. Social-emotional learning (SEL) is an important competency in today's society and a key focus of education. Professor Chang Yu-shan of the Department of Technology Application and Human Resource Development at National Taiwan Normal University integrated GenAI and SEL into computer-aided design projects, using a laser cutter to cut the design patterns and assemble them into a self-propelled ramp toy.

The thematic course was conducted as follows:
① Use a computer to draw five animals on a dragon boat. The dragon boat and the five animals must express at least five emotions, such as joy, anger, sorrow, happiness, and surprise.
❷ Post images of Illustrator drawings in a chain on a teaching website (Facebook group), and add text comments describing situations in your life that trigger such emotions. For example, a student's sharing:
Joy: Good weather for going out and playing
Anger: My shoes got completely soaked after the rain started and I arrived at the flooded area.
Sorrow: All my friends are out of Taipei, I'm all alone.
Le: The weather's nice today, perfect for playing ball.
Frustrated: It's been raining for a whole week and I haven't been able to go out.
❸ We encourage everyone to use generative AI to find reference images and texts, as well as exaggerated expressions, and to compile and apply the information to their work.
❹ Use a laser cutter to cut out the artwork and assemble it into a ramp self-propelled toy.

The core of this course is to utilize GenAI's expressive power to portray students' various emotions in life situations, and to understand what emotions others experience in different situations, thereby achieving the goals of self-awareness and social awareness.
