New Taipei City Ganyuan Junior High School—Exploring the Beauty of Shadow Puppetry

The second semester of the "Exploring the Beauty of Shadow Puppetry" course focuses on "scriptwriting" and "music composition" for shadow puppetry. Starting with a community survey in the Ganyuan area as part of the school's social studies curriculum, students collect and organize local stories (the stories of the old man), adapting them into scripts with complete plots and character personalities during reading classes. Music classes guide students to use instruments and digital music software to create music for the stories, enhancing the emotional impact of the performances. The course continues the puppet making and manipulation techniques from the first semester, incorporating dialogue creation and pronunciation training from the Hokkien language course. Finally, the performing arts course integrates scriptwriting, music composition, puppetry, and set design to complete an interdisciplinary shadow puppetry performance. Through the integration of language, art, music, culture, and sports, students cultivate aesthetic appreciation in a real-life performance setting, deepening their identification with and care for their hometown culture.
