Penghu Area Interdisciplinary Aesthetic Education Community End-of-Term Sharing Session, 2014-2015

The sharing session held at Fenggui Elementary School in Magong City showcased the collaboration between Fenggui Elementary School and Wenguang Junior High School. Through joint exchanges of teaching achievements and local practices, the event demonstrated the diverse and rich landscape of island education. Project leaders Professor Zhao Huiling and Professor Huang Chunmin from National Taiwan Normal University, co-leaders Professor Li Qichang from National Taiwan University of Arts, Professor Gao Zhenfeng from Taipei Municipal University, teacher training committee members Professor Guo Meinu and Professor Chen Jinzhong from National Taitung University, and the "Aesthetic Education for All" project team all attended the sharing session, discussing the possibilities and future of aesthetic education with the teachers.

For many years, Fenggui Elementary School, the host school, has been committed to integrating marine education into students' lives, adhering to the philosophy of "learning through life." Besides cultivating students' environmental awareness and creativity through creating art from marine debris, the school also deepens students' emotional connection and cultural identity by documenting their hometown through photography. Fenggui Elementary School's curriculum extends beyond the local area to the world, including online international exchanges where students practice introducing their hometown in English. They also invite international volunteers from the Wangpu (望仆) ship to the school for collaborative art projects, using marine debris as a medium to create artwork that serves as a bridge for cross-cultural dialogue. Wenguang Junior High School, on the other hand, focused on "Exploring Emotions Behind Masks," guiding students to understand their own feelings through emotion cards and create emotion masks with paint. By writing monologues to describe their emotions, students cultivate self-awareness and emotional management skills, practicing the core values of SEL (Social Emotional Learning) education.

During the event, students from Fenggui Elementary School served as "little tour guides," personally leading the participating teachers on a tour of the school's shell museum and introducing the various shell specimens housed within. The students used lively and engaging language to convey knowledge and respect for marine life, allowing the participating teachers to experience the fruits of localized marine education. Following this, second-grade students performed "Fenggui Storytelling," interpreting local history through a short play, their adorable and refreshing expressions captivating the audience. A hands-on workshop, "Fenggui Nightlights," was also held. Using recycled glass and marine debris, teachers were invited to design the glass bottles, creating unique nightlights to preserve the emotions and beautiful memories of the island.

In addition to course sharing, the event also included a "Snakehead Mountain Aesthetic Journey," allowing participating teachers to explore the unique local landscape where natural scenery and historical context intertwine. Through course sharing and comprehensive discussions, this event not only served as a platform for showcasing teaching achievements but also as a starting point for dialogue between education and the local community, gradually developing an aesthetic curriculum landscape unique to this island. Many thanks to Principal Lin Yanling and her team of Fenggui Elementary School for their meticulous arrangements and the participating schools for their fruitful course sharing!
