National Pingtung Experimental Senior High School – Sugarcane Fragrance in Pingtung

This interdisciplinary aesthetics course begins with "a sugarcane stalk," serving as the core medium for interdisciplinary learning. It starts with students' senses, which are closest to their bodies and daily lives, gradually guiding them to recognize the species, understand culture, connect with the world, and respond to local communities and public spaces. The course design emphasizes "understanding through doing," enabling students to not only recognize sugarcane as a plant but also to understand its multiple roles in history, industry, daily life, and culture through hands-on observation, touching, tasting, planting, and creation. Throughout the learning process, students begin with species identification and sensory experience, extending to the historical context of sugarcane culture, artistic transformation of materials, and bringing their learning outcomes to the community and public stage through field trips, stalls, and thematic presentations. The course integrates art, society, nature, and technology, cultivating students' interdisciplinary understanding, inquiry-based practice, and narrative expression abilities. The course aims to help students build cultural understanding from local experiences, respond to the real world through creation and action, transform learning into comprehensible, shareable, and practical knowledge, and ultimately cultivate sensitivity and responsibility towards social issues, developing learners with cultural awareness and public participation capabilities.
