This video documents Professor Hsu Hsiu-Chu of the College of Arts at National Dong Hwa University, a member of the Cross-Domain Aesthetic Education Project's teacher training committee for the Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Hualien regions. In recent years, she has been engaged in teaching cross-domain aesthetic courses, exploring how to integrate SDGs (Environmental Sustainability) and SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) into STEAM cross-domain practical courses.
After the floods of September 23, 2025, the anxiety and unease felt by the children of Guangfu Township in the face of drastic environmental changes prompted Professor Xu to start thinking: What power can cross-domain aesthetic education bring to children?
In the "Turning Waste into Art" initiative, West Fukushima's environmental artists broke through existing frameworks, leading teachers to see another possibility for post-disaster environmental changes and discarded materials. Originally abandoned materials became teaching materials for interdisciplinary learning; art also entered real-life events, becoming a medium for teachers and students to create together, understand the land, and heal their souls.
